I will celebrate my 55th birthday saying tearful goodbyes to my friends in Mcleod Ganj as we may never see each other again. I will probably be blacklisted for future visa applications to visit India.
This morning I had a final meal with my friends and landlord, Sonam and Chuzom and Sonam's sister, Dolkar. Afterwards I sought my friends at Moonpeak Espresso on Temple Road and saw a few but will return this afternoon to see Pema and Youndren. Up on Bhagshu Road, I made my farewells to my first Tibetan friends in Mcleod Ganj, my cooking teacher Lhamo and his wife, Lhadon. I also stopped at GuChuSum cyber shop to bid so long to the ex-prisoners who run the shop. Across the street, I went to say goodbye to those at Tibetan Emporium.
I bought a bus ticket to Delhi for tonight and will arrive Delhi in the early morning around 0800hrs. There I will get to airport and report to security to get my passport stamped within the seven day limit that central government made on 23MAY at the last camp of the Tibetan Peoples Uprising Movement march. Then I will sit and wait until the wee hours of 30MAY for flight to Frankfurt, where I layover for 1 hour and then board flight to Chicago where I am scheduled to arrive around 10:00 a.m.
I will return but I have changed. This has been a turning point in my life and I have promised all my Tibetan friends that when possible, in a free Tibet, I will join them for the rest of my days helping them rebuild their wonderful land. I anxiously want to see so many of you and I wish I could see you all, but that is not possible.
